Sleep Research
With the help of medical doctors who research sleep, Sierra Designs has been studying how men and women sleep, learning how our bodies distribute heat and absorb cold, and how we need to move and turn to get the rest we need. We've learned that there are many obstacles to getting a good night's sleep in the outdoors. So we redesigned our sleeping bags to meet these challenges. Here's some of what we learned and how we used it to provide you with a better night's sleep.
Stability
To sleep well in a sleeping bag, you need to stay on your pad. Our external Pad Locks keep your bag secured to your Therm-a-Rest® or other sleeping pad throughout the night, no matter how much you move.
Gender-specific bag designs
Men and women sleep better in sleeping bags designed for their body type. Sierra Designs was the first to recognize that sleeping bags should be designed differently for men and women. The average man is 6 feet tall, but the average woman is 5 feet, 4 inches tall. Body proportions and metabolic rates are also different. So our bags are offered in regular and long sizes, tapered to fit each gender and meet each gender's needs for insulation distribution.
